This is not a normal viewpoint: there is no lift, stairways are narrow and dome entry is tied to a fixed time.

Inside the dome

The route passes between the dome shells and close to the Last Judgment frescoes. Movement slows on narrow spiral sections and turning back is difficult.

Who should reconsider

Account for claustrophobia, heart or knee conditions and fear of heights. Carry water in hot weather but avoid unnecessary baggage.

Split the complex

Use the fixed slot for the dome, then spread the Baptistery, museum and bell tower across other hours or days within the ticket validity.
