The Uffizi is easy to overplan. On a first visit, follow a short chronological line and keep space to linger at a few works.
Start with context
The early rooms trace the transition from the late Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Giotto and the early masters make the later Botticelli rooms easier to understand.
The core sequence
Allow time for Botticelli's Primavera and Birth of Venus, then choose Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio instead of trying to study every room.
How long to allow
Two hours works for a priority route and three for a calmer visit. Timed entry still includes security, and ticket-collection instructions should be checked in advance.
